Isabel Fortin, a Level 2 Professional Cookery Student won a bronze medal for the Confectionery section in world skills UK. The competition took place on 26th ofAugust 2015, one of the most reputable competitions in the hospitality industry. Only 15 students were chosen for the Confectionery heat, Isabel being one of them. WorldSkills aim is to showcase the value of skills and raise the recognition of skilled professionals worldwide.
The Competition is divided into 3 tasks: to produce two types of ‘themed’ hand moulded forms using marzipan and/or sugar paste, working with chocolate and lastly to produce 4 portions of a plated dessert. Each competitor has 5 hours to come up with the goods. Recipes can be taken from any cook book or personal recipes used and a simple portfolio of the work competitors will finish with should be presented at the start of the test.
Judges will be looking at different kinds of technique such as air brushing, painting, flaming and piping skills.
