Douglas Oram is now retired, having spent the whole of his working life in the Hospitality Industry.He spent three years as a management trainee at what was then Grand Metropolitan Hotels. The group subsequently underwent several incarnations and finally became part of what is now International Hotels Group.
He then moved to the Dorchester as assistant banqueting manager before moving to become assistant to the General Manager and then purchasing manager of Centre Hotels, which was subsequently acquired by Crest Hotels.After three years he returned to the Dorchester as purchasing manager.
He then became group purchasing director of Comfort Hotels International, which post he retained for ten years. When Comfort Hotels was taken over byLadbroke, he joined Metropole Hotels where he remained as group purchasing manager until they were taken over by Stakis in November 1996.
He then operated a freelance purchasing consultancy until he retired in 2002
