Kristen Henderson was presented Presidents Award by Her Royal Highness Princess Anne at St. James’s Palace

On June 8th 2017, in recognition of Kristen’s absolute commitment to teaching, the 2017 President’s Award was presented to Kristen Henderson by Her Royal Highness Princess Anne at St. James’s Palace. The awards come together with a common purpose – to recognise and reward learners and tutors who have achieved excellence as a result of the City and Guilds of London Institute qualifications.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_images_carousel images=”8920,8919,8922,8918,8921″ img_size=”800×600″ speed=”4000″ slides_per_view=”2″ autoplay=”yes” wrap=”yes”][vc_column_text]

The ceremony is the culmination of three different awards schemes: The Prince Philip Medal, the President’s Award and the Livery Company Awards. Kristen attended with her husband and her nominator Lisa Clapham, Director of Lakefield together with Lisa’s father. After the ceremony, award holders enjoyed afternoon tea at the Palace, while the Princess spent time talking with them together with their chosen guests.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_images_carousel images=”8923,8924,8917″ img_size=”800×600″ slides_per_view=”2″][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal has been pleased to continue an award which was first presented in 2003, to mark the occasion of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh’s 50 years as President of the Institute. The President’s Award is presented to the tutor of City & Guilds qualifications who has obtained the overall highest marks based on the evidence supporting his or her City & Guilds Medals for Excellence nomination.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Here follows what was written about Kristen for this award:

Her Royal Highness has approved the conferment of the President’s Award for 2017 upon

Kristen Henderson

For the past 15 years, Kristen has been an integral part of Lakefield Hospitality College, first as a trainee and now as a highly respected mentor and lecturer. Renowned for her positive, high-energy and tireless commitment to her learners Kristen is continually developing new ideas and finding innovative ways to inspire those she teaches. Kristen’s passion for teaching was obvious from the very start. Despite a demanding timetable at the University of West London where she studied for a degree in Hospitality Management, Kristen continued lecturing part-time at Lakefield.

Since then she has taught and assessed a wide range of subjects, from Professional Cookery and Accommodation to Health and Safety and Level 4 Hospitality Management. Determined to maximise her learners’ development, she has created a wide range of challenging activities, including competition work and an extensive e-learning programme.

Her enthusiasm shines through at all times, particularly when teaching The Art of Hospitality, a module she carefully designed. This runs at the beginning of every year to help inspire new students and give them confidence. The confidence they gain will enable them to be both inspired and aspiring. By better understanding their industry they will have the courage to dream what they dare to think is possible for their futures.

Kristen continuously looks for ways to promote the hospitality industry as a sector with exciting and fulfilling career paths. She has forged excellent links with employers, opening up future job horizons and offering invaluable work experience for her learners. Keen to encourage young people into the industry, she has also helped develop themed activity days for school children to experience what the hospitality sector is all about.

Mentoring is at the heart of what Kristen does. She has helped create a comprehensive mentor programme that helps each student and teacher develop employability skills as well as critical life skills. Kristen makes sure she is by each student’s side, sharing every ounce of her knowledge and passion, and supporting them on their journey to success.

It’s no wonder that her highly motivated students are regularly awarded coveted City & Guilds Medals of Excellence. It came as no surprise either when she received this year’s Hospitality Lecturer of the Year from the Professional Association for Catering Education.

Kristen has always gone the extra mile to help her students in whatever way she can. She even continued mentor sessions with students during her maternity leave! She is selfless, dedicated and sympathetic, and is an excellent role model to all the young people she works with.

The President’s Award was first presented in 2003 in recognition of the Duke of Edinburgh’s 50 years as President of The City and Guilds of London Institute. It honours tutors who have excelled in delivering City & Guilds qualifications.

The President’s Award cannot be applied for – the recipient of the annual award is chosen from a shortlist by HRH The Princess Royal, the current President of The City and Guilds of London Institute.

This shortlist of candidates is compiled purely from the highest scoring tutors from a different award scheme – Medals for Excellence.
