Lakefield students get stuck in at Three Top Evens of The Industry
(Sodexo Salon Culinaire , Kikkoman Competition and National Chef of the Year Competition)
Lakefield students get stuck in at Three Top Evens of the Industry. We started our first term by sending all our students to different top events in the Hospitality Industry such as Sodexo Salon Culinaire, The Kikkoman Competition and The National Chef of the Year. This experience is a great opportunity to expose our students and to have a better understanding of their course. Hard work, dedication, passion and genuine interest for their chosen career is just one of the crucial components of success.
Sodexo Salon Culinaire
On 27th of September, six of our students (Almudena Prada, Naine Shirley, Lara Peder, Delphina Fung and Alejandra Jaramillo) worked for one of our Patrons, David Mulcahy at The Sodexo Salon Culinaire annual salon programme which is held in Ascot every year. The Sodexo Salon Culinaire is one of their largest culinary competitions in the UK today, demonstrating a true spirit of engagement across the hospitality industry.
Our students worked with the top chefs and joined the programme including The Cupcake Countdown Competition in which two of our students Almudena Prada and Naine Shirley got a gold certificate for winning the competition.
Delphina Fung, Level 2 Professional students said, “I very much enjoyed the event, I helped one of the chefs prepare his ingredients for the competitions, I’ve learnt a lot of things by looking around and trying different kinds of food!”
Lara Peder, Level 2 Professional students said, “It was very interesting to see how the competition works as it was my first time attending this kind of event, it was fascinating to see competitors working under pressure against the clock and to see them managing their time!”
The Kikkoman Masters Competition
On 2nd of October, Three of our students (Catherine Candia, Sofia Mayuga and Naine Shirley) helped at The Kikkoman Masters Live Competition. Their role was to be the runners between competitors and judges so all dishes had to be handled with care! Our students were fascinated to see the art of plating and food presentation.
National Chef of The Year
On 3rd of October Three of our Students (Almudena Prada, Lara Peder and Magdalena Cervenova) helped at The National Chef OF the Year run by The Craft Guild of Chefs, In addition to the NCOTY announcement, Craft Guild of Chefs has also revealed the young chefs going forward to The Young National Chef of the Year final. Heat winners Danny Young from Northcote and Henry Wadsworth from Belmond Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons are to be joined by the five highest scoring young chefs from both the London and Sheffield heats.
Craft Guild of Chefs tweets @Lakefield saying “They are all doing such an amazing job of making sure the #NCOTY final runs like clockwork”
“It was very nice to see people like Benoit Blin from Crème de la Crème and Tom Kerridge from BBC’s Food Chefs. The standard of this competition is very high and it was incredible to see closely how they cook the food from scratch and how they plate and garnish it”. – Magdalena Cervenova, Level 3 Supervision and Leadership.
