Lakefield WOW Cake Competition 2017

On Friday 10th February 26 girls from 14 – 18 years old took part in our novelty cake decorating competition. Pastry chef Ben Crocker and Sous Chef Andrew D’Amey from Delaware North, Wembley Stadium, finalists from British Bake Off Crème de la Crème and Professional MasterChef, judged the competition.

On Friday 10th February 26 girls from 14 – 18 years old took part in our novelty cake decorating competition. The students had 2 hours to decorate a cake (that was given to them) using different techniques and they were to choose a theme. Most of the competitors came from the Convent of Jesus and Mary language college in Willesden, three first year students from Lakefield also took part.

We were lucky enough to have Pastry chef Ben Crocker and Sous Chef Andrew D’Amey from Delaware North, Wembley Stadium. Both chefs have made recent tv appearances on British Bake Off Crème de la Crème and Professional MasterChef. They gave a skills workshop in the morning and judged the competition in the afternoon.

Most girls worked independently trying their best to use the techniques they had learnt in the morning. We congratulated Lydia Wells from Wimbledon on her winning cake entitled ‘The Owl and the Pussy Cat’. She was followed by Cecilia de Menezes and Molly Meaker in second place with their “Aztec Cake”. Bronze went to two girls from Convent of Jesus and Mary Language College.
