WOW CAKE COMPETITION 2016
Our annual WOW Cake Competition took place this year on 1st July. It was won by Cecelia de Menezes and Mollie Meaker both 14 year olds. The competition was judged by well-known development chef Alan Shipman from the Craft Guilds of Chefs and one of our very own sous chefs Emma Taylor.
Sheila Dillon from the BBC radio 4 Food Programme came to interview our participants who took part in our cake-decorating competition. BBC Radio 4 will be broadcasting a programme for Christmas about Cake. The programme is about the pleasure of cake-baking, decorating and the reasons why we love cake.
This year we had 7 entries in which 14 young girls participated and enjoyed the event. Those competing had a two-hour time limit to produce something exciting and creative using a variety of techniques. Everyone work really hard and showed both skills and teamwork. Cecelia de Menezes and Mollie Meaker stood out among the rest because of their neat and creative cake decoration. The theme of their cake was a well known line from Shakespeare: “If music be the food of love, play on”.
The winners were:
- Winner – Cecelia de Menezes and Molly Meaker
- Runner Up – Elisa Vergara and Bassi Sira
This programme is designed for young people to show case their cake decorating skills and unleash their imagination. The WOW Cake Competition is a novelty cake decorating competition for 14-24 years old girls. The aim is to decorate a cake that both looks and tastes good.
